- The Royal Australian Institute of Architects 2004 National Award for the Best Sustainable Design. This award was presented by the Governor General at the national awards ceremony in Canberra in November.

- The Delfin Lend Lease Grand Masters 2004 National Award for the Best Commercial category.

Community Awards include:
- The State Intergenerational Award - for the school's contribution to building sustainable links with older people in the community. This award was sponsored by the Office for the Aging and the SA Health Department. This very successful ongoing program has seen a group of 5 year old students working closely, on a weekly basis, with the older people at the Mawson Lakes Helping Hands Centre.
- Recognition for developing a greater understanding of the role of the Vietnam Veterans have played in Australia's history. This is an ongoing program involving the Year 6 & 7 students at Mawson Lakes School and the Pooraka Branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association.
- Mawson Lakes School and the Mawson Lakes Development were showcased at the World Life Long Learning Conference in Edmonton, Canada in July 2004. Stan Salagaras and Ali Hennessy (teacher at MLS) presented a paper at conference highlighting the development of an integrated learning community at Mawson Lakes.
- Alan Peucker (Principal of Mawson Lakes School) presented a paper at the 4th Learning Cities and Regions Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland in September 2003, showcasing the work being done at Mawson Lakes. This has resulted in many overseas visitor attending the school
