Olympic rowers Amber Halliday and James McRae will be on hand to provide tips to boating enthusiasts and rowers at the opening of the new Boatshed at Mawson Lakes on Sunday 19 October.
The opening will mark the long-awaited launch of The Boatshed, which will be home to the Mawson Lakes Model Yacht Club, SA Radio Yacht Club, Mawson Lakes Rowing Club, Northern District Canoe Polo Club and dragon boat users.
An extensive project which has been a long time in the making, The Boatshed, is a joint initiative between Mawson Lakes Development and the City of Salisbury. Funded by the Mawson Lakes Community Trust Fund the new facility, which has cost more than $400,000 to build, will provide boat storage and changing facilities for water lovers.
The grand opening will take place from 11.00am to 1.00pm on Sunday 19 October with the Mayor of Salisbury, Gillian Aldridge, unveiling a special commemorative plaque to honour former member, Dr Keith Le Page who sadly passed away earlier this year. Dr Le Page was a key supporter for the development of The Boatshed and an avid supporter of Rowing SA.
Everyone is invited to come along to the event, which will feature paddle boats, the opportunity to meet Olympic rowers Amber Halliday and James McRae and the chance to get out on the water at Mawson Lakes.
